About Us

Purpose

The Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization, was established in 1979 to:

Advance the interests of woodland owners and the cause of forestry.
Develop public appreciation for the value of Wisconsin's woodlands and their importance in the economy and overall welfare of the state.
Foster and encourage wise use and management of Wisconsin's woodlands for timber production, wildlife habitat and recreation.
Educate those interested in managing Wisconsin's woodlands.

Committees

Did you know that WWOA needs your volunteer efforts to be successful? In addition to meeting other woodland owners and having input into WWOA, just a few hours of your time a couple times a year can accomplish so much! Here is a list of WWOA's committees for your consideration, this is your golden opportunity to become more involved in your organization! Contact the WWOA office to receive more information about the committee(s) you are interested in.

Awards Committee

This committee accepts nominations (click here for form) from the membership for WWOA's Distinguished Service, Special Recognition and Next Generation Awards. These awards are presented at the WWOA Annual Meeting Banquet. This committee conducts it's business by meeting each July in Stevens Point. Chair, Marcia Frost Vahradian at marcia.frost-vahradian@dnr.state.wi.us or 920-787-4686.


Education Committee

The Education Committee works on ideas for increasing the educational efforts of WWOA. It also makes recommendations to the Board on monetary support for educational programs around the state (such as PLT, Trees for Tomorrow, Arbor Day Writing Contest, etc). This committee meets during the week a couple of times a year. Chair, Jan Lehrer at leejlehrer@wi-net.com or 715-677-3850.


Finance Committee

The Finance Committee has developed a Financial Reserve Management Policy for WWOA and monitors WWOA's financial situation. The committee also works with the Treasurer in making recommendations to the Board for WWOA's annual budget. This committee usually meets during the week in central Wisconsin a couple of times a year. Chair, Donna Johnston at johnfor@eznet.com or 920-848-2026.


Gift Shop Committee

The committee selects and designs items to be offered for sale through the gift shop. In addition, committee members take the gift shop display to various meetings to sell items. This committee meets once a year in early spring in Stevens Point to review the gift shop items and make new selections. Legislative Committee

This committee reviews proposed state and federal legislative issues pertaining to private woodland management. Legislators are frequently invited to address the committee on a particular issue. The committee makes recommendations to the Board and writes articles for Woodland Management to keep the membership informed. The Legislative Committee meets as necessary depending on pending legislation. Meetings are generally held in Stevens Point during the week.  Chair, Gene Roark at 608-238-5349.


Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee invites speakers to address the committee on particular products, local markets, or issues related to marketing your timber. Timber prices and trends are also monitored by this committee. The committee meets during the week a couple times a year in different parts of the state depending on the meeting topic. Chair, Ed Moberg at hemtrees@wctc.net or 715-886-4601.


Membership Committee

The committee works on ways to encourage active woodland owners to join WWOA. The committee hopes to use these ideas to strengthen WWOA' s membership enabling the organization to be more effective in encouraging woodland stewardship throughout Wisconsin. The committee meets a couple of times a year in Wausau. Chair, John Czerwonka at 715-454-6440.


Past Presidents Committee

The Past Presidents Committee is a new committee for past president to meet and share ideas about WWOA's future.  The committee meets a few times a year in Stevens Point. Chair, Al Barden at bardenalb@nnex.net or 715-479-8449.


 

Publication Committee

The primary responsibility of the Publication Committee is producing an informative and interesting quarterly issue of Woodland Management for our membership. Committee members are encouraged to write, solicit, and collect articles that might be of interest to our members. Articles are then reviewed and edited as necessary for placement in Woodland Management. The committee meets at the Forest Products Lab in Madison on the second Monday of March, June, September, and December. Chair, Tim Eisele at teisele@chorus.net or 608-233-2904.


Publicity Committee

The Publicity Committee is a new committee to promote the awareness of WWOA and WWOA's activities.  The committee meets a few times a year in Stevens Point. Chair, Al Barden at bardenalb@nnex.net or 715-479-8449.


 

Science Committee

The Science Committee invites speakers to address the committee on issues related to sound forest management such as tree genetics, diseases, new management techniques, and chemical use. Lively discussions then follow the presentation. The committee also submits articles on these topics to Woodland Management. The Science Committee usually meets on a Saturday morning in March, June, September, and December in Stevens Point. Chair, Dave Hall at davehall@tds.net or 608-455-1555.
